On Saturday lunchtime I went to Sumo Sushi in Menteng, along with other lovely food bloggers. We were invited by Shabrina of the Zomato website. In case you guys haven’t heard of the Zomato website, I would recommend looking them up for helpful information on restaurants in your area.

Okay so Sumo Sushi in Menteng has been running for a number of years, but this was the first time I had tried it. I’m kind of fussy when it comes to Japanese food, having travelled to Japan a number of times. When I looked on Sumo Sushi’s Facebook page, it was pretty clear, that its a fusion restaurant, rather than a strict Japanese one.

Kimchi Ramen, 59k
The first dish I tried was Kimchi Ramen, 59k. To be frank, this dish was too acidic for my taste. I know that kimchi can have a slightly acidic taste, but the overall taste of this dish simply did not win me over.

Chicken Katsu, 60k
Next up, I tried the Chicken Katsu, 60k. I love Chicken Katsu. It’s always been a favorite of mine when I go to a Japanese restaurant. Sumo Sushi’s Katsu was one of the better dishes I tried at this restaurant. The only thing I might add, would be that the fillet of chicken was slightly small. The breadcrumbs on the fillet were crunchy which I enjoyed. Overall this dish was one of the best for me.

Premium Salmon Kremes Sushi, 59.5k
No visit to a Sushi restaurant would be complete without trying the main feature. We ordered the Premium Salmon Kremes Sushi, 59.5k. I have to say that I enjoyed the Salmon Sushi Kreme. It’s a fusion sushi roll, topped with cheese. This was amongst my favorite dishes which I tried at Sumo Sushi.

The other sushi dish we ordered came with salted egg inside. As I’m not a fan of salted egg, it was never going to be my favorite. But even so, the sushi was yummy, definitely my favorite at Sumo Sushi. If I went again, I would be interested to try the other sushi fillings.

Pasta Ebi Awuk, 69k
If you are a pasta lover you might want to try the Pasta Ebi Awuk, 69k. This is your basic pasta dish topped with prawns. The overall taste of this dish was rather peppery.  The soft pasta had a similar texture to noodles. For a fusion dish it wasn’t bad, but quite expensive at 69k.

Chicken Teriyaki, 52k
The last and final dish we ordered was the Chicken Teryaki, 52k. In regards to the chicken, I would say it was just okay. The sauce I found to be a touch sticky. All in all, I was not wowed by this dish in any way.

My overall impression of Sumo Sushi was better than I had expected. I think it’s a good idea to order the sushi when visiting. I preferred the sushi dishes overall. The food at Sumo Sushi is as I mentioned fusion. So if this is what you are looking for, Sumo Sushi certainly does offer you that. If you find yourself in either Menteng or Kelapa Gading and want to try a Japanese fusion, Sumo Sushi is waiting for you!

Thanks once again to Shabrina from Zomato for the invite! It was lovely to catch up over lunch with you and the other food bloggers.
