I think the first time I tried Kaihomaru I literally died and went to heaven! So happy was I to have found a place in the city with such excellent sashimi. I was beyond happy and quite surprised at just how fresh the sashimi was. I remember that I didn't want to stop ordering! The best days to go I was told, were apparently are on Tuesdays and Fridays, this is when the fish is imported directly from the famous fish market Tsukiji in Tokyo. I would highly recommend going there on either of those days so as to guarantee freshness. Kaihomaru is not only a good choose for sashimi, I would say the tempura is without a doubt the best I have tried in Jakarta. The batter is light and the ebi is so succulent. It is always worth ordering the tempura if you go there. Also another dish which I think is excellently prepared is the agedashi tofu as shown in the photo. On the outside the tofu is crispy and the inside the tofu literally melts in your mouth.
If you are a fan of tamago I would highly recommend you try this sweet egg dish at Kaihomaru, again one of the best tamago I have tried in the city.
