A couple of nights ago I was walking past Mamacita Wine Kitchen, which is located in Senayan City Mall. Conveniently just a few minutes away from where I live. At this time of year with it being Ramadan, Jakarta is pretty quiet. It’s the ideal time to be in the city, I really do enjoy the calmness in the air. Amongst other things, It’s very easy to get around, and places are quieter than they otherwise would be. Mamacita Wine Kitchen seemed like the perfect place to hang out and grab a quick bite, whilst also working on my blog. It has a cozy feel, and they play lounge style music. So it’s kinda easy to relax while writing, or just chilling with friends.
With it being fasting month, most places respect people who are not drinking alcohol. Therefore wine is served in a tumbler, rather than a wine glass. The wine list is extensive, and in regards to other places in Jakarta, the prices are quite competitive. These days I’m not a big wine drinker, so ordering one glass is enough. I ordered the Yellow Tail Pinot Noir, 85k a glass. I’m not really a huge fan of Australian wine but this Pinot Noir was not bad. If I was looking to select something more to my personal taste, I would have gone with a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. If you are ordering a bottle, you’ll find that the wine list has a lot more to offer. As the name suggests, Mamacita Wine Kitchen focuses on wine culture, which is already very popular in Europe and now trending in Jakarta.
The thing I like really like about Mamacita Wine Kitchen is the relaxed vibe. Don't be mistaken to think it's all about wine though. They also serve pretty decent food. The menu offers both Asian and Western cuisine. I gather the idea behind the food menu, is to pair it with your wine, complementing your chosen dish. If I’m honest, the evening I was there, I didn’t actually have any intention to order food. But when I noticed the table next to me ordering what looked like a delicious platter of yummy delights, I have to admit I was definitely tempted. I wasn’t feeling super hungry, but I figured it might be nice to try a light snack. I wanted to see how the food fared, or maybe that was just an excuse to eat! I ordered a Margherita Pizza, 70k. My preference when it comes to Pizza, is thin crust topped with mozzarella cheese. I’m more than aware that some places in Jakarta are using other types of cheese, which after having lived in Italy is not my personal favorite.
By the time my Pizza arrived, I was already kinda hungry. On first sight, the Pizza did look good, but I was more interested to know how it tasted. I’ll admit I was impressed, I have to tell you it was so yummy! It actually complemented my glass of wine perfectly. I definitely made the right decision to order food here guys. It’s always good when you are surprised by how tasty a dish is when you least expect it. I’d be really interested to know what the other food on the menu tastes like. Hmmm seeing as Mamacita Wine Kitchen is so close by, I see no reason not to go back. I enjoyed my evening there. As well getting my writing done, I left feeling totally satisfied.
I would recommend Mamacita Wine Kitchen for any of you who like a relaxed vibe. You don’t necessarily have to drink wine. Of course they do have other drinks. I’ve been before and ordered tea. It just depends on your preference. I’d say check this place out if you are looking for somewhere with a nice ambience in Senayan City. Mamacita Wine Kitchen certainly does offer that.
