It's been well over a week since I last blogged, and I have really missed sharing all my favorite places with you guys! If you have been wondering what I've been up to, I've been on the hunt for new places in the city that I hope you will enjoy as much as I have.
If you live in Jakarta, you are probably aware that the Ismaya Group owns a number of successful food and drink businesses throughout the city. In my opinion, Ismaya have a great creative team. They simply have the vision to push the creative boundaries, making each restaurant stand out in its own unique way. On Monday I was lucky enough to join my friend for lunch at Fook Yew in Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall. Fook Yew is inspired by Shanghainese street food, and I for one, was super excited to try the food as soon as we entered. If you have been following my blog, you will know that I LOVE Chinese cuisine! and this Shanghainese pop art concept from Ismaya certainly didn't fail to impress me. I simply fell in love with the design of the restaurant! What's not to love? It's decked out in a cool modern Chinese style. Something which I haven't seen done in Jakarta. I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for a cute concept.
So how about the food. We ordered the Mun Beef Udon with Xinjiang Sauce, which I have to say is kind of addictive. The Udon noodles were cooked to perfection, not at all oily. I loved the Xinjiang Sauce which is not spicy and totally yummy. When Udon noodles are done well, they are one of my favorite things to order. I give a big thumbs up to the Fook Yew's Mun Beef Udon.
The next dish was also super enak! Crispy on the outside, filled with vegetables and chicken, cooked in a honey sauce. I loved this dish and would totally recommend it if you are thinking of visiting Fook Yew. I thought the crispiness of the Go Hiong, was a perfect complement to the Beef Udon noodles. Even thinking about it now makes me want to go back and order more!
After eating a delicious meal, I always want to try something sweet. If you are a fan of Chinese cuisine, you will know that Sweet Corn Egg Yolk is a something of a Chinese delicacy. Being honest, I have never really managed to find the perfect egg yolk buns outside of China. But I have to say that Fook Yew's offering is delicious. Warm and crispy on the outside with sweet egg yolk filling on the inside, another satisfying dish.
What I really love about this restaurant, is that it's a fun concept where you can also eat delicious food. That is not esy to achieve, but once again, Ismaya have created something really unique. It was love at first sight for me, I just adore the place. But I'm never able to give a final verdict until I've tried the food. When a place looks so cute, its often lacking in the overall taste of the food. But believe me when I say that is not the case at Fook Yew. This was my first time visiting Fook Yew and I'm 100% positive that it won't be my last! So guys, If you are around either Grand Indonesia or Gandaria City, do go and see for yourself what a cool place this is!
